Ransomware is a new type of Malware Attack that the hackers or the attackers are using these days majorly. In Ransomware attack, the attackers simply compromise the security of your personal computers and encrypt the files and the folders that are there in your system.Once you try to access the encrypted files and folders you tend to get a message from attackers that you need to pay them a particular amount of money, and after getting the money they will provide you the decryption key and only then you will be able to access your system's files and folders.Now here the attackers want you to pay money in Bitcoin which is a decentralized form of currency and will cost you in crores if you are an Indian.

These days a new Ransomware attack has been in talk all around the world and it has been given a name as "WannaCry Ransomware" attack. Here WannaCry is the name of the attacker group that has conducted this attack and it is believed that so far this attack has infected system of around 99 countries all around the world.This attack is mainly attacking the Windows Based systems, because the system that is running on Windows Operating system are more vulnerable to these kinds of attacks, there were some security issues in older version of windows and Microsoft has claimed that they have fixed those security issues in March-April 2017, and they have requested everyone to update their Windows Operating System as soon as possible and get that security issue fixed by downloading the patches.Let me tell you, after the attack, the ransom being demanded is $300 worth of bitcoins which is close to crores in Indian Currency.

Another news that is coming regarding this Ransomware attack is that this Ransomware attack has links to North Korea. According to information from Symantec and Kaspersky, the origin of WannaCry may be North Korea. To support this theory they relied on code they found in WannaCry and that had been seen before in other situations. The code found had already been seen in other applications previously used by the Lazarus group, which is known to be associated with hacking activities and North Korea.

In order to protect yourself from these sorts of attack make sure that you have the latest version of windows installed on your computer and make sure that if you have the older version of Operating System then it is fully updated. Make sure that you have an antivirus installed on your computer, a genuine one.It is believed that this Ransomware attack is getting spread by the attackers by sending malicious emails to several users around the globe, so make sure not to click on any malicious emails if you see them in your mailbox.
