Master Card vs VISA vs RuPay !

We all use digital payment these days, we either try to make payment through our Credit or Debit Cards or through Net Banking. We often get confused between the use of Credit or Debit Card and more than this we get confused between Master Card, VISA and recently a new card is added that is RuPay Card, these cards often used interchangeably and often create little bit doubts in mind of people who use them, one who don't care about their differences use them normally and one who is a little bit keen to know the story behind them and after having a good understanding about them, start using them.

So, Yes If you want to know the differences between the Master Card, VISA and RuPay Card then your are at the right place, as I am going to explain about them in this article of mine. The logo that we see on our credit or debit card is often one of them either it will be a Master Card or a VISA card or the newly introduced RuPay Card, here I am not going to talk about the Maestro or the American Express cards as these two are not the mainstream cards.
  • When we talk about Master Card, VISA Card, and Rupay Cards, here they are just payment gateways, for example whenever we try and make payment either online or we withdraw some amount from an ATM or using a POS machine, it's not often the case that our bank and the merchant to whom, we are paying belongs to the same bank, or the ATM machine from where we are withdrawing the amount is the machine belongs to the same bank where our account exists, so for the proper functioning of this mentioned activity we require a mediator that helps us to make our transaction successfully irrespective of different banks. These payment gateways act as a bridge between the merchant to whom we are paying and us or act as a mediator between our bank account and the ATM machine of another bank from where we are withdrawing money and they take their commission in between.

  • Here the Master Card and Visa Card are the payment gateways provided by other countries that involve extra processing fees, So In order to have our own payment gateway system with the vision of overcoming this extra fees problem, the RuPay Card was introduced, it completely stands for Rupee Payment and it is managed by NPCI.

  • The advantage of RuPay card is many, as we are using the domestic payment gateway here we don't have to worry about the extra processing fees that are there in case of Master and Visa Cards, cause of this we will get benefit along with us our bank and the merchant to whom we are paying will get the benefit as well, and as we are making the payment using our own domestic gateway it becomes fast as we don't have to get connected to an outer gateway. Our data is processed within India in the case of RuPay Card.

  • The RuPay Card works in all the ATMs of India as well as on the POS machines and we can also use it to pay online in over 10,000 websites. Most of the banks still provide Master or Visa Cards, but if they try to provide RuPay card then they won't have to pay the extra processing fees for issuing them to customers.

  • When our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced the "Jan Dhan Yojna" all the account holders were given the RuPay cards only. Thus Rupay Cards can be given to anyone as there are not any extra fees involved with it.

  • Another advantage of using RuPay card is that the banks provide paybacks when we use these cards for any kind of the transaction, either while shopping or while paying at Fuel Station etc.

  • One of the drawbacks of the RuPay card is that at present we can only use it in India but National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) who promotes RuPay card is working hard to spread it’s acceptance worldwide by partnering with Discover Financial Services and Japan Credit Bureau (JCB). RuPay card is currently available in form of Debit Card only and in near future we will be seeing RuPay Credit Card as well.

  • Still, Master Card and VISA cards are provided by most of the banks to its customers cause the way they have been branded, but with the time we will be seeing that RuPay cards will be provided by all the Banks all over the India and everyone will get benefit from their usage.

  • The Conclusion that we can draw from the above discussion is that, If you are an Indian and make most of your transaction in India only then RuPay Card is best suitable for you but If you are a world traveler then you have to go for either of Master Card or VISA card.

That's all in this article of mine, I hope now you guys have a clear vision of the Different Payment gateway system that is used with your Debit or Credit Cards.
