What is SEO and its types?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO can be defined as the collection of methods or methodologies, strategies, and tactics for improving traffic to a website and make the website more popular among the user. The main intention of performing Search Engine Optimization on a website,
is to obtain a higher rank with competition to other websites of the same type in the search result of a search engine such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines.

Let us take  an example of a simple search, for example whenever we search for Java Tutorials on any search engine more often than not we tend to see the links of either Tutorials Point or Javatpoint on the top, why is it so, it is because these sites have always gathered the most number of visitors cause of their good content and have always generated more traffic as that is why they are ranked much higher in comparison to other websites and we always see them on either as first or second link in the search result. In Technical Term this process is called Page Ranking and every search engine follows a page rank algorithm for doing so.

It is a normal process that as a user we always try to find the solution to our search in the very first page and don't really click through the next pages of the search result, therefore it is essential for our website to rank higher in order to get a visit from a user.

Let us talk about the types of SEO techniques:

  • White Hat SEO: When we talk about White Hat SEO we are talking about everything legal and whatever the strategies or tactics followed by the SEO experts are completely under the policies of a Search Engine. Some examples of using White Hat SEO techniques includes use of keywords and keywords analysis, keywords are the main words that help a search engine Crawler to identify and know what your website contents are all about, for example, if your website is providing information regarding gardening then your keywords should always be related to gardening only and if you try to violate this then you are violating the rules of search engine and as well as not following the White Hat Seo Techniques. There are various keywords planner tools available over the web that helps an individual to select best possible keywords for his/her websites.Other Examples includes backlinking, link building to improve the popularity of link and writing contents for human readers.White Hat SEO is also called as Ethical SEO.

  • Black Hat SEO: Black Hat SEO is completely opposite to White Hat SEO techniques, Black Hat Seo involves aggressive SEO strategies that mainly focusses on Search Engines only and not focussing on the human readers and they often violate the guidelines of Search Engine as well. Some examples of black hat SEO techniques include keyword stuffing, invisible text, doorway pages(or jump pages are created for spamming the indexing of search engine), adding unrelated keywords to the page content or page swapping (changing the web page entirely after it has been ranked by search engines).Black Hat Seo techniques are mainly used by those people whose only intention is to make money in a short span of time rather than a long-term investment on their websites. Most experts who implement Black Hat Seo techniques, the website have to always bear the risk of getting banned from search engines.Black Hat Seo is also referred as Un-Ethical SEO.
What is a Web Crawler:
  • A web crawler (also known as a web spider or web robot) is a program or automated script which browses the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner. The main intention of web crawler is to visit the pages that are listed on the web so that their indexing can be performed and after performing the indexing function that particular pages or the websites can be ranked on the search engine.Whenever a Crawler visits a page or a website it always sees whether keywords have been added to the website or not, cause keywords helps a crawler to identify the contents of a website and if your website is containing images then crawler will try to find out the title and the alt text of image to find out the type of image and whether the image is relevant to the context or not.
  • Thus we can say that Web Crawler or normally a Crawler is an integrated part of Search Engine who is responsible for providing us the latest and the most relevant contents according to our searches on the web.
Tips for Search Engine Optimization:
  • Always try to add unique contents to your website or blog and if you are taking some contents from some websites always try to give them credits.
  • The Keywords that you add into your website should be relevant to your website only and they should be able to provide an overview of the content inside your website.
  • The URLs to the pages should be small and appropriate and most importantly it should be relevant to the page it is pointing to.
  • The Titles should always be placed in the web pages of your website.
  • Internal Linking can also be done to jump from one portion of the page to another.
  • Always add title and alt to images of your website.
  • Try to create a customized and user-friendly error pages rather than using server error pages.
  • Submit Sitemap of your websites to give an overall structure of your site.
  • Try to get Links from popular websites to increase the popularity of Your Website.
