Let me get started with this article of mine and I hope you guys will surely get a clear understanding about some of the popular terms that sometimes can prove confusing to newbies, I am also a newbie in this field but I will try my best to explain the terms to best of my knowledge.
  • Page Rank: So far what I have learned in SEO is that your website should get a higher ranking in search engines to appear on top of search result, this higher ranking gets achieved when Page Rank of your web page is higher when compared to your competitors websites, Page Rank is an algorithm that is used by Google to estimate the relevance and importance of a page and according to it a rank is provided to the page and then if that rank is higher than other pages then your website gets a higher ranking in search engine when someone searches for it and you see your website getting appeared on top of search results.

  • Back Links: Back Links are also called as inlink, it is simply a hyperlink that points to your website and is present in some other popular website. BackLinks really help in improving the Page Rank of our website as some popular website is containing a hyperlink to our website, that helps a search engine to understand that our website is a reputed one as others are promoting or endorsing it.

  • Anchor Text: Anchor text is the text that is associated with the hyperlink, the text that we see with a link and we click on it.Having a keyword oriented anchor text is a must for SEO as it will help to give an idea to search engines what is your website is about if they read this anchor text on some other website. Irrelevant anchor texts are highly discouraged.

  • SERP(Search Engine Results Page):  These are the pages that we get a response from the search engine, whenever we search for a particular keyword. In order to get a good traffic to a website, a site needs to have a higher ranking in SERPs.

  • Web Crawler: Web Crawler is a software program that keeps searching for web pages that are there on the web, in order to discover new links and new pages Web Crawler browses the Web and this is the first step that is required in the process of indexing a web page.

  • SiteMap: SiteMap is a .xml file that contains the complete list of web pages of a Website that is accessible to Crawler and helps it to Crawl a particular website more efficiently. It is a good practice to submit a sitemap of your website to search engine as it helps them to know the complete structure of your website and that results in more efficient Crawling.

  • Meta Tags and Title Tag: Whenever we create a website we often use HTML for designing basic elements of our Website, so in the <head> tag of our website, we need to include a <title> tag as well as few <meta> tags as they help in SEO of our websites. The Title of a particular web page should be relevant to website as it plays an important part for Crawlers to understand the contents the page might be containing , so as the case with <meta> tag which we use to define keywords related to our website and also to define a short and effective description regarding our website.

  • Search Engine Marketing(SEM): It is a form of Internet Marketing that helps in the promotion of a website by improving its visibility and presence in search engine result with the help of paid promotions, Facebook Adverts, and Google Adwords are mainly used for paid promotions.

  • NoFollow: It is an attribute used in Links by website owners to signal the search engine that they are not endorsing the website that is linked to. This will prompt search engines not to count that link for page ranking and in search algorithms.

  • Keyword Stuffing: Keyword stuffing is the process of adding a huge amount of keywords within a website, it is the process of overloading a web page with keywords so that the Search Engine will read the page as a relevant page in a Web Search.Keyword Stuffing often comes under Black Hat SEO and the sites often get penalized and get a much lower ranking if the search engine detects Keyword Stuffing in the websites.vRather than adding unwanted and irrelevant keywords try to add only the relevant keywords to improve the ranking of your website.
