Beware of Fake Font Update On Google Chrome !

A new Ransomware Malware Attack is in sight these days in Google Chrome, that comes up with a popup and asking you to download a fake font update, and if you download it you might get attacked and you might become a victim of Ransomware attack.

Before I go further ahead, I just want to describe in brief what Ransomware is, It is one of the most used malware attack these days, where the attackers get into your system and encrypt or put a lock on your important files and folders on computers and when you try to open it, you will see a message where they will ask you to visit a particular website where you will be asked to make a payment of particular amount in order to get access to your files and folders again.

  • This tactic is not a new one, in past, it has been noted that users have been tricked with fake updates of Adobe Flash Plugins, or bogus Java update or some other sort of fake update popups or messages. When you click on such links you simply get redirected to a malicious website whose web pages security has already been compromised and a malware will get installed into your system.

  • Coming to this fake font update attack, a popup will appear with a message that, The "Hoefler Text" font wasn't found with the installed Google Chrome and it will say that the font version is old and the latest update is there for the taking, if you click on the update a warning will be first given to you by Chrome itself that this particular font is not commonly downloaded and it might be dangerous, make sure to take this warning of chrome seriously and don't fall into this trap of hackers. If you go ahead surpassing the given warning by Chrome believe my friend you will get into a big problem and your computer security will be compromised to a Ransomware.

  • Be proactive while receiving any such random popups while surfing the net, cause they can really hit you hard if you believe them blindly, be smart and maintain the security of your system. As this attack is using the trick that a particular font is missing and needs to be updated for the proper functioning of your Chrome browser most of the user will fall into the trap, so just be aware of this type of attacks and make sure no one can compromise your system integrity by any such means.

That's all in this article of mine, I read this news today itself as I use Chrome browser for surfing the Internet, I thought it will be good to share this news with other Chrome users as well, so If you are a Chrome user, make sure to protect yourself against this attack.
