Android Becomes the Most popular Operating System!

Android is certainly the most popular operating System in the context of a SmartPhone, but when we talk about the total internet usage across desktop, laptop, mobile or tablet, Android has beaten Microsoft's Windows Operating System to become the most popular Operating System around the globe.

According to StatCounter which is a Web Analytics Company, whose work is to record and analyze the traffic that is coming to the Internet via different devices, finds that in March, Android topped the worldwide OS internet usage market share with 37.93%, which puts it marginally ahead of Windows  (37.91%) for the first time. StatCounter stated that in the list of Operating System based on the Internet Usage, Apple's IOS comes third with 13.09%.

It is interesting to know that the majority of Android users are from Asia only and you will be shocked to know that almost half of the internet users in Asia used an Android device in the previous month for accessing the web.

As per the reports of StatCounter “In North America Windows (all versions) maintained its lead across all platforms with 39.5% share in March followed by iOS (25.7%) and Android (21.2%). It is a similar story in Europe where Windows (51.7%) is more than twice the level of Android (23.6%). However, in Asia, Android is on 52.2% compared to 29.2% for Windows.” From these stats, it is clear that it is because of the majority of android users in Asia, today Android has become the most popular Operating system for surfing the web.

StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen said “It marks the end of Microsoft’s leadership worldwide of the OS market which it has held since the 1980s. It also represents a major breakthrough for Android which held just 2.4% of global Internet usage share only five years ago.”

Cullen said that main drivers of the breakthrough were the growth of smartphones to access the internet, a decline in sales of traditional PCs and the impact of Asia on the global market.

From the point of view of Windows Operating System, the positive news is that Windows still leads the chart of leading Operating System in terms of data usage via desktop, however, it will be interesting to see how the tech giant company Microsoft will tackle this defeat from Android OS and what plans they will implement to again regain the top spot among all devices.

That's it in this article of mine and If you guys want to read the complete blog of StatCounter about this news, you can read it here.
