Amazon.com is the world's largest online retailer and cloud service provider when it was started, it was started as a book selling website and now it sells almost all kinds of products through it. Amazon was founded on July 5, 1994, by Jeff Bezos. Jeff Bezos incorporated the company as "Cadabra" in 1994 but changed the name to Amazon for the website launch in 1995.He selected the name Amazon because it was “exotic and different” and as a reference to his plan for the company’s size to reflect that of the Amazon River, one of the largest rivers in the world.

  • Amazon current logo that looks like forming a smile from A to Z, it is basically showing that the company is willing to deliver all kinds of products to every part of the world.

  • Amazon employees every year spend two days at the Customer Service Desk even the CEO of the company as well, it is done to help the workers to understand the customer service process.

  • As we know that Amazon first been started as a book selling Website, The first book sold was “Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies” by Douglas Hofstadte.

  • The company lost $4.8 million in August 2012, when its website went down for 49 minutes. That’s a loss of $120,000 per minute.

  • Employees that collect order items are called "Pick Ambassadors", it is estimated that they may walk approx 10+ miles a day for retrieving items.

  • Amazon serves over 20 million customers daily.

  • Someone on Amazon bought a CD-ROM for nearly $3 Billion and still there were shipping and handling charge on it of $3.99, later on, the order was canceled by the company itself and apologizes for this goof up.

  • Amazon Web Services were first started as a way to keep track of their orders and now it also hosts many Internet Companies like NetFlix, Reddit etc.

  • IMDB, one of the largest movie website on the web is owned by Amazon. Alexa.com that provides online analysis about all the websites based on the user's browsing habits is also owned by Amazon.

  • Amazon has one of its building in Seattle, is a seaport city on the west coast of the United States named after the first dog who “worked” at Amazon. His name was Rufus.
