Do You Know,What happens when you delete something on Internet?

Most of the time we believe that if we are deleting something from our social profile or delete an email from our mail account, it gets deleted permanently and no proof of deleted data existed with the company, but this isn't the truth, According to Behnam Dayanim, the lawyer who specializes in privacy and cybersecurity says that “Whether or not something is deleted isn’t within the user’s control”. We had apparently given the permission to companies to hold on to our data at the time of agreeing to their lengthy policies.

It is just a myth, that data is removed permanently, it remains within the server of the Website.

As a normal user, we tend to believe that whenever we delete some of our embarrassing post that we did when we were newcomer to the social networking world, been deleted permanently and now no one will be able to trace it now, but according to Behnam Dayanim who is a lawyer by profession and have specialization in privacy and security over the Internet believes that, we tend to believe that everything is under our control but it isn't the truth, for example when we delete a mail from our mail client, it goes into the deleted item and if we want to delete it permanently we have to empty the deleted item folder, however even after deleting the contents permanently, the item could remain on our email service provider server for an unspecified amount of time as we have given the permission knowingly or unknowingly to the company for holding onto our data.

Behnam Dayanim also claimed that there are also high chances that our details including social media posts, emails, and text messages could wind up in the hands of hackers during the security breach and all our data can become public once it comes into the hands of the hacker.

Here are what some of the popular services policies of some of the most popular website says:

Facebook:

Facebook the biggest social networking site in the world, hold on to our data until it believes that this data can prove helpful for serving us better and for serving others as well more efficiently, thus even after we delete something from our profile, it still stays on the facebook server as long as they believe that it can turn out fruitful for them.

Gmail:

Gmail, as we all use it as the main source of Mail client for sending and receiving emails over the network, follows the same policy as the Facebook, Gmail says that they “may not immediately delete residual copies from our active servers,” after you delete an email.

Twitter:

Twitter is not having a clear answer to this question, however, the company states that the browser that we are using may be saving a copy of our public profile of twitter with them and also a copy of our public posts even after we deleted the posts or even we deactivate our twitter profile.

Snapchat:

Well, Snapchat keeps things simple they say that whenever you view a snap or a snap chat video, it’s deleted from their servers in “Most cases”. Snapchat “can’t guarantee that the messages will be deleted within a specific timeframe” and says your snap “may remain in backup for a limited period of time.”

Instagram:

Instagram the most popular photo sharing platform owned by Facebook stated that they may retain your data for commercial/archival or for auditing purpose if required. Our posts helps Instagram and other giant websites to show us relevant ads, and they use our deleted posts as well for analysing our profile and show us ads accrording to it.

After reading the above-written contents, one have to make sure to stop posting every detail on social networking platforms, as now you know that even after deleting them, their trace remains with the website's server, so just make sure to post only those things that won't hamper you even if it gets into the hands of some unwanted person and it won't breach your privacy and security over the web.
