What is a VPN?

VPN stands for "Virtual Private Network". Whenever we visit a particular website on the web, we make a request to the data center or to the server where that particular website resides so while doing so the request is going through our IP address only and after processing the request over there we get a response from server and that particular website's home page get visible in our browser.

Now just imagine, what if someone is keeping an eye on your activity that what websites are you using, where are you spending most of your time on the Internet, he/she can easily monitor you with the help of your IP address. If we are using an open Wifi Network that anyone can steal our data as we haven't done anything to protect it. There are cases that the data we are sending over the network may be encrypted but is someone is keeping an eye on you, he must be smart enough to break the security and steal your data. Whenever we try to visit a particular website that has not been made available in our country then we simply get the message that this particular website has been blocked in your country, the people of the country where the website is accessible simply take our IP address and finds from where we are and block us.

Here comes the job of VPN, whatever the problems that have been listed above can be overcome by the implementation of VPN. What VPN actually does is it connects us to a remote location VPN server and after that whatever the request we made actually goes through that particular server only. The Connection that is established between our system and the server is completely encrypted and now neither our Internet Service Provider nor the Govt. will be able to know what communication or what activities we are performing on the Web. Now if we want to access a banned website that is not available in our region or country the server will feel that we are making a request from some other country where the Website is available and we will be able to access the website easily.
