What is Kali Linux?

Whenever we talk about Operating System more often than not the first OS that comes to our mind is Windows, Windows have captured most of the population of people who are using computers or laptops, but there are other Operating Systems also available in the market mainly Linux and Macintosh or simply MAC.

In this article, I am going to tell you guys about one of the popular distribution of Linux that is Kali Linux and why it is used? If you people have ever heard about Linux OS then you guys must be knowing that there are many flavors or distribution of Linux available and everyone selects a flavor according to their need and preference.

Before getting into the Kali Linux the first things that I want to talk about is, what is the reason behind Windows capturing the Market more when compared to Linux or Mac, the reason is that the simple interface of windows where the user simply have to perform some clicks and their tasks will be performed and they only use windows for performing normal tasks.

for example, if we have to install some new software in our window based system then we simply have to download the required software and then can simply install it by following the wizard so anyone can use windows who have basic knowledge of computers.But on the other hand, if we have to install some new package in Linux, we have to use Installation Package tools from the terminal using commands that require a little bit of technical knowledge as well. Thus the reason that there are fewer users of Linux in the world is that it is mostly used by persons who belongs to a technical background and one who wants to extend the functionality of its OS rather than just using what has been provided to him.

Ok ! The Introductory part is Done about Linux and its small comparison to Windows, it's the time to jump into the world of Kali Linux and why it is considered to be the paradise of Hackers Fraternity.

I am only writing this article to give you guys an overview of kali Linux and my only motto is to provide you the concepts about Constructive Hacking that is the Ethical One, this article has nothing to do with Destructive Hacking.

• Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. For example, you have developed a website and now you want to know whether it will be successful at higher level and before launching it you want to check whether there are any loopholes in your web application or not, So In order to find out the loopholes or the available vulnerabilities in the application Penetration Testing is performed. Penetration Testing is required because if the loopholes aren't discovered then your website might be exploited by hackers out there.Using the Penetration testing a computer system and a network can also be tested to find the loopholes if there any.


• Whenever we talk about performing these kinds of testing operation or the auditing of security of our systems or applications then we mostly prefer Kali Linux as it provides 500-600's of inbuilt tools for the user that can be implemented for most of the security related tasks.


• There is a misconception going on around the web that Kali Linux means Hacking, it is completely up to skills of the person who is actually using it, whether he wants to use the available tools in the right possible way or wants to use the given tools in breaching someone's security and stealing data of his system.If you want to learn Ethical Hacking then Kali Linux is surely for you as it provides a number of tools that will help you to enhance your skills as an Ethical Hacker. I am just providing this article for the information purpose and please don't try to use the given tools on the wrong way.


• Now the question that comes to our mind is, can't we perform Penetration Testing on our Windows-based system, the answer is yes we can perform but for doing such we need to write a thousand lines of code by us only without any base, this base is already available in Kali Linux in form of tools that perform most of the task by itself only and make burden of a user much lighter.

• Another misconception is that It is illegal to use Kali Linux which is completely wrong, if you are using the given utilities in the right way then everything is legal after all it is a normal operating system. If you want to become a Security Expert then surely you can go for it, You can either install it in your system or you can install it on Virtual Box as well.
