Story of Cloud Computing.

Cloud Computing is not a new concept in the field of Computer Science and Internet but from the past few years, it has gained more popularity than ever. First question that comes to  mind when we hear the term "Cloud Computing " that from where this technology has got its name, this technology has got its name from Cloud only as we all know that cloud are made up of water vapours molecules and are never of the same shape, their shape is not stationary sometimes clouds are there sometimes not, same happens in cloud computing as well the technology is made up of networks and comprises a large number of user base, sometimes users are there sometimes not following the footsteps of Cloud only, Whenever it starts raining the rain got scattered all over the world through clouds and when we talk about cloud computing technology they are also providing their service to the whole world.

Before getting into the Services of Cloud Computing lets us first take a real time example where Cloud Computing can be implemented. Lets us imagine that you are a gamer and you loves to play lots and lots of games, you have purchased a system that allows you to play only normal games and it doesn't really allow you to play high end, high definitions games so now what will you do will you purchase a whole new system just for playing games ? or you will do something more efficient, here the technology will come into play if you are having a fast internet connection, rather than purchasing a whole new expensive system you can easily get a high configuration system in the cloud and there you can play the new games easily, one of the major advantages of using Cloud is that according to your need and necessity you can scale up or scale down the configuration at any time at a very minimal cost.

We can use most of the software online rather than installing in our own system as we all know how much space a Photoshop software acquires, we can easily use Online Photoshop, we can use Word, Powerpoint online as they are available in the cloud for the using. If you want to store your files on the cloud there are storage providers, some major players are Google Drive, DropBox etc.One of the advantages of storing your files in Cloud, we don't really have to worry about the security of our data
as the company that is providing us the required space is taking some amount from us monthly so it's their responsibility to maintain our data, what they do is they make multiple copies of our data and store them in multiple data centers.

So now we have the idea of what is Cloud Computing, what are its applications and how can we implement it in real life, now let us move a step further and talk about the various services of Cloud Computing.
  • Saas(Software As a Service): In some ways, SaaS is very similar to the old thin-client model of software provision, where clients, in this case usually web browsers, provide the point of access to software running on servers. SaaS is the most familiar form of cloud service for consumers. SaaS moves the task of managing software and its deployment to third-party services. Among the most familiar SaaS applications for business are customer relationship management applications like Salesforce, productivity software suites like Google Apps, and storage solutions brothers like Box and Dropbox.

  • Paas(Platform As a Service): PaaS functions at a lower level than SaaS, typically providing a platform on which software can be developed and deployed. PaaS providers abstract much of the work of dealing with servers and give clients an environment in which the operating system and server software, as well as the underlying server hardware and network infrastructure, are taken care of, leaving users free to focus on the business side of scalability, and the application development of their product or service.

  • Iaas(Infrastructure As a Service): Iaas is a type of cloud computing service that basically provides an infrastructure to an individual or an organization. IaaS is comprised of highly automated and scalable compute resources, complemented by cloud storage and network capability which can be self-provisioned, metered, and available on-demand.
Advantages of Using Cloud Computing:
  • Cost Saving: If we try to purchase a high configuration system physically it will cost much more in comparison to getting the same configuration on Cloud.

  • Manageability: If I have stored some data in the cloud, I need not worry about its security and manageability as the cloud which is providing me the service will take care of it.If I am using one of the service model of Cloud Computing for example Platform as a Service I can easily concentrate on the development and deployment of the product and everything related to hardware and network infrastructure will be taken care by Cloud only.

  • Reliability: With a managed service platform, cloud computing is much more reliable and consistent than in-house IT infrastructure. Most providers offer a Service Level Agreement which guarantees 24/7/365 and 99.99% availability. Your organization can benefit from a massive pool of redundant IT resources, as well as quick failover mechanism - if a server fails, hosted applications and services can easily be transited to any of the available servers.

  • Freedom of Access: I can access my work from any location as it is available on the cloud not on my in-house system.

Cloud Providers:

  • Amazon Aws called as Amazon Web Services was the first cloud service provider, they started providing their services in the year 2006.
  • Microsoft Azure is also an open, flexible, enterprise-grade cloud computing platform.
  • IBM cloud is also there, Google Cloud Platform is there, google has already provided a cloud-enabled photo storage tool named as Google Photos and Google Drive is also there for the storage of files.
