Bharat Interface For Money-The BHIM APP.

8 November 2016, the day which will be remembered in the years to come as one of the most remarkable days in the history of Indian Government, When our Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi made announcement regarding the demonetization of 500 and 1000 Rs  notes after which there were mixed feelings among the citizens of our country, some were with the decision and some were against the decision, but our govt and our PM along with RBI stand by their decision as they made this decision to fight against the Black Money and Corruption.

The Reason behind repeating the story of Demonetization is that, In this article, I am explaining about the e-wallet app launched by Modi Govt on 30 December the BHIM app an Adhar Based Payment application which is named after Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The main and the foremost reason behind the launch of this app is to make it easy for all the people to make digital transactions. As there were number of e-wallet apps have already been available in the market such as Paytm(the big player), Pay U Money(The oldest in the field of e-wallet), Mobikwik and other, it wasn't easy for the BHIM app to make its place among the user base but due to its easy implementation and friendly interface BHIM has found its feet among its competitors very effectively.

  • The BHIM app, which is a re-branded version of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is named after Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and aims to promote digital transactions.UPI allows an individual to send and receive money using mobile numbers only if their account has been set up to use the UPI service. USSD is a Global System for Mobile(GSM) communication technology that is used to send text between a mobile phone and an application program in the network.

  • The app can currently be downloaded only from the google play store, with a maximum transaction limit of Rs 20,000 within 24 hours and Rs. 10,000 per transaction. However, the app is to some extent different from the existing mobile wallets. Here’s how:

  • At the time of launch BHIM was only available in Hindi and English language but now with the update BHIM has started supporting Gujrati,Kannada,Malayalam,Tamil,Telugu as well.

  • Unlike other payment wallets, which ask you to first add money to the wallet and then start transacting, BHIM app allows you to send and receive money directly through online banking.

  • You can also use BHIM app without internet connectivity.Just Dial *99# from your cell phone and follow the instructions. Although *99# service can be used without installing BHIM app as well as this service was launched separately by National Payment Corporation of India(NPCI) before the launch of BHIM App and later when BHIM gets launched the same service gets linked to the app as well.

  • One of the unique feature that BHIM app provides to its users it that users can check their account balance and can track all of their past transactions.

  • Once the merchant connects a biometric device with his smartphone (after installing BHIM app), then he can easily accept payments from buyers by using their fingerprint. The Aadhaar protocol kicks in here, as the fingerprint is directly matched from the main server, and the payment is done In a way, BHIM effortlessly connects the Aadhaar card, mobile phone, and UPI/USSD technologies to provide a digital platform for making and receiving payments.

BHIM has been one of the most ambitious projects of Indian Government and as every new project there are some flaws in the app as well but these flaws will surely be rectified with time and as it is said in Union Budget 2017-2018, govt. is planning to add new features to the app as well. In short, we can say that in order to support digital India campaign govt has gifted us this app and now it's our turn to use the app and make it a huge success.
