Battle of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

Technology is improving and getting bigger and bigger by each n every passing day or I must say by each n every passing hour. The number of things that we can do today or even experience today was not possible 10-15 years ago. Even at that time, developers were there, the ideas were there but somehow the implementation was not as good as today is, the reason may be a lack of resources at that time.

The main idea behind applauding the growth of technology is that today we are doing some of the impossible things with the help of great innovations, who would have thought to get into the virtual world a few years back, yes you got it right I am talking about Virtual Reality and another great invention that have recently got the mainstream attention is Augmented Reality. But what they are exactly? Let’s try and find out.

What is Virtual Reality?

• In 90's Nintendo was the first company that came up with a device that promises to implement the concept of Virtual Reality, The device was called as the Nintendo Virtual Boy it was first device of its type , it failed miserably in the market wasn't accepted by the audience and later on it was discontinued after a year of sale. Since then, Nintendo never looks to improve on the technology, which could lead it behind its other competitors as virtual reality is slowly coming back to our lives.

• Virtual reality is all about the creation of a virtual world that users can interact with. This virtual world should be designed in such a way that users would find it difficult to tell the difference between what is real and what is not. Furthermore, VR is usually achieved by the wearing of a VR helmet or goggles similar to the Oculus Rift.


• The New York Times recently distributed more than one million Google cardboards to its digital edition subscribers. YouTube and Facebook are enabling VR online through digital video players. Everything is aligning to have VR hit critical mass next year.


• Virtual Reality is the only medium that provides the luxury of getting involved with the content completely. I mean the user will have his/her complete focus on content only and they wont we allowed to check emais or text messages or updating status on social media. VR is the most prominent way to tell a story beacuse whatever is happening inside that headgear makes an individual feel something in his head and heart.


• Just wear a HeadGear and load a tour or a video of your favorite film or location and enjoy it as you are at that place only where the things are happening. For example, if i load a tour of Effiel Tower it will seem like that I am there only with the help of VR. 


• 360 degree YouTube videos can also be seen with the help of VR Gears. Just imagine that you are in a helicoptor ride , In order to enjoy 360 videos and other VR Videos your phone should have Gyroscope in it as gyrscope tells the gear that in which angle you are moving your head and then the gear presents you the content according to the angle.

What is Augmented Reality?

• When we talk about Augmented Reality, we can say that this technology has achieved more success among the consumers as compared to Virtual Reality. There have been a number of applications with AR, Pokemon Go is an example to go with and many hardware devices as well such as the Google Glass.


• Augmented Reality can be define as the blending of our real life and virtual reality,as developers can create virtual images within applications that gets combined with the contents of real world.


• One of the real time example that we can take of Augmeted Reality is , for example we want to buy new furniture for our home, what we can do is we can check virtually that how it will fit within the place when it arrives and after checking all the settings we can order it. Isn't it cool? Surely it is.


• Microsoft's Holo lens is one of the best example of AR, for example you are playing a fighting game with Holo lens on, and you want an opponent to fight with , so in your room along with all the components you will see an opponent coming to you by breaking walls of your room .


• Augmented creates new things in your existing Space.

1. AR is costly in comparison to VR.
2. In AR new things gets created in the exisiting space on the other hand in VR we get into a complete new world.
